How to Set up a TENS Unit

You hate pain, and you want the pain to go away, similar to millions of people from all around the world. Through Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), pain relief may be possible. TENS is a type of electrical stimulation that uses small units of electricity to reduce pain. TENS is a popular method to relieve acute and chronic pain, especially pain associated with soreness, swelling, nerves and muscle injuries, or strain resulting from overexertion. A TENS unit works best while you are being active. Once you’ve gotten a taste of an effective pain relief method, you’d start using it more often. However, before you begin using TENS, ensure that you know how to set up a TENS unit properly.

The iTENS is a recommendable wireless TENS device for effective pain relief. The wireless electrode pads of iTENS send low-voltage electrical impulses to the nerves through the skin surface. Its electrode pads are controllable from your smartphone via Bluetooth. When you are using iTENS for the first time, follow these general guidelines on how to set up a TENS unit.

How to Set up a TENS Unit: Step by Step (iTENS)

  • Fully charge the device in the docking port via a USB port
  • Remove the device from the charging station and snap it into the electrode wings
  • Peel the transparent film from the gel pads and place the gel face down into the silver underside of the wing
  • Install the iTENS app. The app is compatible with most iOS and Android gadgets.
  • Turn the unit on by pressing the centre button until the light blinks.
  • Pair the device with your app via Bluetooth
  • After pairing the device, you can now place the electrode pads into the treatment site.
  • Choose what area and for what condition in the pre-set options in the iTENS App
  • Activate TENS machine and slowly increase intensity (until tolerance)
  • You may perform self-treatment for 20 – 60 minutes per session and about 2-3 times a day

After knowing how to set up a TENS unit, you can begin your treatment. Check your TENS manual or through the iTENS app on how to operate the TENS device. As a general precaution, do not use TENS while driving or near a body of water. Do not place the electrode pads on the temples, head, throat, and on broken skin. TENS is not advisable for pregnant women, people with heart disease, epilepsy, and people with cardiac pacemakers implanted in their bodies. Do check with a doctor or physiotherapist on the proper administration of a TENS machine. Relieving pain with the wireless iTENS is straightforward. Self-treatment could now quickly be done even by people with limited electrotherapy experience.
